It is proven by our investigations that compression therapy gives rise to the opening up of the previously non-functioning, foregoing in health, lymphatic runoff. The conventional methods of compression therapy such as elastic dressing and zink-gelatin bandages are reviewed as are modern methods of compression therapy using compression elastic tricot. The data obtained allow recommending the use of compression elastic tricot as one of the main procedures for the treatment of a severe disease such as lower limb lymphedema.

KEY WORDS: edema, lymphedema, compression.
