The study illustrates essential restraints of treadmill use for patients with lower limb chronic obliterative arterial diseases, including arteriosclerosis obilterans. Contraindications for this test were present in 56% of examined patients. Cardiovascular diseases were the major cause of limitations for treadmill exercise, being a common comorbidity for chronic peripheral arteriopathy. Authors compare horizontal treadmill walking with usual walking without it (with equal speed) to match the data of different investigations. Statistical difference was absent both for pain-free and maximal walking distances.

KEY WORDS: treadmill test, arteriosclerosis obliterans, cardiovascular system, walking, contraindications.
