The authors describe the clinical picture, diagnosis and collateral circulation in chronic ischemia of the upper extremities investigated in 163 patients. Consider the potencies of the current methods of diagnosis including Doppler ultrasound, transcutaneous measurement of oxygen tension and angiography. The patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the degree of extremity artery lesion. It has been established that the severity of extremity ischemia depends on the lesion volume and the presence of the thrombotic syndrome. A working classification is offered of chronic ischemia of the upper extremities as dependent on the etiology and degree of ischemia. The classification may be useful in routine medical practice.
